Hello! I'm back!
Today's post: New items.
I'm always thinking of things that I can make out of something else. It's fun. Like I've said before, anything is fair game.
A puzzle turns into:
|
Puzzle earrings and necklaces |
...puzzle piece earrings and necklace pendants. Note how the left and right earrings fit into each other when not being worn. It keeps you from losing one when you put them away.
Extra buttons?
|
Button flower pins |
|
Button flower earrings |
Aren't these adorable? I thought this up waaaay back in high school
(*cough*) and decided to revisit my trashion roots, so to speak.
You know those cardstock envelopes that come with gift cards? I keep mine.
|
Yogurtland gift card holder earrings and hair pin |
|
Border's gift card holder earrings |
Oh look! Earrings!
And then there are all the different kinds of boxes in which food is packaged:
|
Earrings made from a Stash (tea brand) box |
Ooh, pretty star...That's an "A" right under the beads along the center crease.
|
Cup Noodles earrings |
|
|
|
I love Cup Noodles. Each flavor has a different package color and design! This is Picante Shrimp.
|
Hello Panda (cookie brand) earrings |
Food packages are actually pretty well-designed. Besides, I like a little humor sometimes. Quaker oatmeal, anyone? Okay, a little creepy, but
I think it's funny.
|
Quaker dude earrings |
|
Sun Maid raisin earrings and pin |
Raisins are very healthy. See the nutrition facts?
|
A&W root beer earrings |
A&W root beer. If you look carefully, the left earring has "beer" on it upside down. My odd (quirky?) sense of humor finds that hilarious.
|
Udon package earrings |
Udon are Japanese noodles. Why there is a fish on the package is beyond me, but there is, and it is cute. Therefore, I made earrings out of two of them.
|
Terry's chocolate earrings |
I love Terry's chocolate. When you smack one side of the chocolate ball, it falls apart into chocolate orange slices. Very clever, and so much fun! Plus, pretty box.
|
Kleenex box earrings |
A-choo! Tissue anyone? This hippie-like pattern is actually from a Kleenex box. They come in different colors. Awesome! I no longer despise cold season.
|
Alighiero Boetti earrings |
I went to see the Alighiero Boetti embroidery by Afghan women exhibit at the
Fowler Museum and loved it so much that I made earrings out of the pamphlet. Very beautiful work with a powerful message.
|
Assorted butterfly pendants |
This is my attempt at displaying my butterfly pendants like a real butterfly collection. It's a felt pillow inside of a plastic photo frame. Epic fail? Possibly. But you get the idea.
Side note: I am so very sorry about the length of this post. I can't seem to keep it short!
If you have the patience, the following pieces are made out of traditional Japanese origami. See? I can make normal stuff, too!

Origami butterfly earrings |
|
Origami butterfly (small) hair pin |
I also make custom pieces, like so:
|
Business card flower pin |
|
Business card flower pin |
These were made out of business cards (lovely color, isn't it?). I also made a few pairs of earrings, but I forgot to take pictures (bad blogger!). I also apologize for the fuzzy quality of the photos.
The following pieces are made out of materials donated by Plastech Specialties:
|
Made in USA butterfly earrings |
|
Made in NY earrings (back of the USA earrings above) |
These are made out of the "Made/Grown in [insert country/state of
origin here]" cards on price cards at grocery stores. I have all sorts
of countries and states. I am so excited! All these flags make really
cute earrings (these pictures don't do them justice).
|
Number earrings (5-6-7-8) |
|
Number earrings (5-6-7-8) and bracelet (0-9) |
(Bad photos again. Sorry!) These are the price number inserts used at supermarkets. Think of all the possibilities! They're...infinite! (Bad pun?) The bracelet is adjustable, and the earrings can be any combination of numbers. Think how cute 1-2-3 earrings would be. Or for the computer geek in your life, 0-1-0 binary code earrings with a matching bracelet! Think someone is the oddest person you've ever met? 1-3-5-7-9! (Okay, that one was a little mean.) Special dates? Today would make a 0-5-2-9-2-0-1-2 bracelet. They're also very lightweight. Another plus! (And there I go with the number wordplay again.)
You have now reached the last of the nearly endless line of photographs. Are you relieved? Kudos to you if you actually got this far.
(*snerk*) I should probably say something more, or else this blog will be composed of only badly-taken photographs and my inane descriptive comments. Hmm...
If I wanted to sound smart, I
could wax poetic for pages about how my pieces reflect Western social material values as a commentary on modern-day fashion and trends, advertising, consumption, and disposal. There's probably a master's thesis in there somewhere. As it is, right now, I'm just having fun, doin' what I love to do! In the words of the immortal Forrest Gump, "That's all I have to say about that."
Thanks for visiting and come back again soon!
I like button flowers!
